What Did Mirra Andreeva Reveal About Qualifying for the 2026 WTA Finals?

Andreeva is a rising star of the WTA, and despite her young age, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the sport, winning numerous titles this season. However, despite achieving multiple feats, her journey to the WTA Finals slipped away from her hands.

She faced a round of 16 loss to Sonay Kartal at the China Open. At the Wuhan Open, she lost in the round of 32 to Laura Siegemund, and at Ningbo, she lost to Zhu Lin in the round of 16. Her chances to qualify for the WTA Finals further dropped as she was unable to compete at the 2025 Toray Pan Pacific Open due to visa issues.

During her interview in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, she shared her mindset and honest opinions on qualifying for the WTA Finals in the following year. She added, “Yes, if I get a chance to qualify for next year’s finals, I will do everything that I can not to think about qualifying to WTA finals. So I’m just gonna try to focus on every match that I get to play and that’s it. Not thinking about qualifying for finals.”

In her current season, she achieved major feats with her partner, Diana Shnaider, winning the Brisbane International after defeating Priscilla Hon and Anna Kalinskaya in the final round. She also won the Miami Open doubles title after defeating Cristina Bucșa and Miyu Kato in the final.

While on her Dubai Championships title run, she overcame top stars, including Iga Świątek, Elena Rybakina, Markéta Vondroušová, and Clara Tauson in the final. At the tournament, she became the youngest player to reach the last-four stage, among other notable achievements.

Apart from other feats, Andreeva also won the Indian Wells title after defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final round. With this accomplishment, she became the youngest player to reach multiple WTA 1000 semifinals.
