Mirra Andreeva Breaks Silence on Tension in Her Box After Asking Team Member To Leave Stadium During French Open Loss

Mirra Andreeva addressed the emotional outburst during her French Open quarterfinal loss, explaining she felt overwhelmed and needed space.

Mirra Andreeva broke her silence after a tense and emotional quarterfinal loss at the 2025 French Open, shedding light on when she asked a member sitting in her box, presumably her mother, to leave the stadium during the match.

The 18-year-old Russian found herself in the spotlight for her surprise defeat to French wild card Lois Boisson and an on-court outburst that had the crowd booing.

Mirra Andreeva Concluded Her Third French Open Singles Campaign

The match marked the end of Andreeva’s third Roland Garros campaign, where she entered as the sixth seed and a strong contender after reaching the semifinals in 2024. She made a dominant run through the early rounds, not dropping a set against Cristina Bucșa, Ashlyn Krueger, 32nd seed Yulia Putintseva, and 17th seed Daria Kasatkina.

But things unraveled quickly in the quarterfinal against World No. 361 Boisson. Andreeva lost control after narrowly losing the first set in a tiebreak and taking an early 3-0 lead in the second. Frustration boiled over as she surrendered the lead, sending a ball flying into the stands, earning a code violation, and lashing out at the crowd, telling them to “shut up” after being met with jeers.

In her post-match press conference, Andreeva addressed the speculation around her emotional behavior and clarified what happened with her box. When asked about the apparent lack of support from her team during the match, she explained that things had started off normally but quickly became emotionally overwhelming.

“In the beginning of the match, everything was great,” she said. “After, I was looking at them, if I did some mistakes or some wrong decisions, to look at her to see what she would say.”

Andreeva said she hoped for cues or advice, especially after some double faults. “Of course, sometimes I was a bit emotional. So basically nothing bad really happened, but today was one of those days when it’s just a bit harder to deal with everything that’s going on the court,” she added.

Andreeva Still Competing in French Open Doubles With Diana Shnaider

Her explanation comes after a series of heated exchanges during the match, not just with the crowd, but also with the umpire. At one point, Boisson challenged a line call and won the point, triggering an angry reaction from Andreeva, who felt her shot was in. However, Hawk-Eye proved otherwise.

The mounting pressure, combined with the local crowd’s support for the underdog Frenchwoman, created a charged atmosphere that clearly affected Andreeva’s composure.

The Russian tennis star is still active in the doubles event with partner Diana Shnaider. The fourth-seeded pair advanced to the semifinals, where they will face second seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini on June 5.
