Andreeva vs Fernandez Head-to-Head
These two players have met twice on the WTA Tour, both in 2023. Andreeva defeated Fernandez at the 2023 Madrid Open for her first-ever win on the WTA Tour, but the Canadian leveled up the head-to-head by winning in three sets in Hong Kong later that year.
Andreeva has started the clay-court swing on the front foot. She won the title in Linz, made the semifinals in Stuttgart, and is now in the quarterfinals in Madrid for the third year in a row.
The 18-year-old certainly had to do it the hard way to make the last eight, but ultimately overcame Bondár in a match that lasted nearly three hours. She let slip a 5-1 lead in the third set, but ultimately prevailed in a tie-break to win 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Fernandez had a much easier fourth-round outing as she claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Li. This marks her first quarterfinal appearance at a WTA 1000 event on clay, and it comes on the back of her run to the last eight in Stuttgart.
Andreeva vs Fernandez Prediction and Pick
Fernandez has shown great resilience and excellent court coverage on clay so far this year. After an up-and-down start to the year, the Canadian is finally finding some consistency and appears to be playing with a lot of confidence at the moment.
On Tuesday, Fernandez faces another in-form player who continues to find a way to win even when she isn’t at the top of her game. Andreeva has won 10 of her 11 matches on clay this year and has beaten strong clay-court players like Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek and Jeļena Ostapenko.

The Russian did struggle with her serve on Monday, firing 12 double faults. And fatigue may prove to be an issue as this match comes just one day after her three-hour battle against Bondár.
However, Andreeva is in sublime form, and we believe she will carry that momentum into Tuesday’s match. She has more big-match experience under her belt, which should come in handy down the stretch of a crunch quarterfinal. Pick – Andreeva in three sets.
