Mirra Andreeva was seen expressing her frustration during her match against Magdalena Fręch at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open when she hit a ball into the crowd after her serve was broken. This encounter marked the third meeting on the WTA Tour between Andreeva and Fręch, with the Pole securing her first victory against the World No. 7.

Before beginning the grass-court swing in Berlin, Andreeva competed at the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, advancing to the quarterfinals in both events. She then competed at the French Open, defeating players such as Cristina Bucșa, Ashlyn Krueger, Yulia Putintseva, and Daria Kasatkina before being eliminated by Loïs Boisson in the quarterfinals.

Mirra Andreeva Expresses Frustration in Loss to Magdalena Fręch at Berlin Tennis Open 2025

Andreeva was seeded sixth at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open and faced Fręch in the first round. She started strong, winning the first set 6-2. However, the Pole mounted a stunning comeback, clinching the last two sets to win the match with a final scoreline of 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.

What captured the attention of many was Andreeva’s display of frustration during the match. After losing a point to FrÄ™ch, she was seen hitting a ball into the stands in frustration.

During the post-match on-court interview, FrÄ™ch commended Andreeva as a great fighter. She acknowledged that the Russian played “really great tennis” and made her work for her win.

“Mirra [Andreeva], she’s a great fighter, she’s playing really great tennis. So yeah, I knew from the beginning that it’s going to be a very tough match. We were playing for the third time this year, so yeah, it’s a lot,” FrÄ™ch said.

Who Will Magdalena Fręch Face in Berlin Tennis Open 2R?

Following her victory over Andreeva in the first round of the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, FrÄ™ch is set to face either Amanda Anisimova or Wild Card Bianca Andreescu in the second round. In the lead-up to the WTA 500 grass court tournament in Berlin, Anisimova played in the 2025 Queen’s Club Championships, where she was seeded eighth.

She defeated Wild Card Jodie Burrage 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, Wild Card Sonay Kartal 6-1, 6-3, third seed Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-3, and top seed Zheng Qinwen 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to secure her place in the final in London. In the championship match, the American faced qualifier Tatjana Maria and finished runner-up after losing 3-6, 4-6.

Meanwhile, Andreescu began her grass court season at the 2025 Libéma Open, aiming to improve her runner-up finish from last year. She triumphed over qualifier Joanna Garland 6-1, 6-3 and Lulu Sun 6-0, 6-4 in the first and second rounds, respectively. However, her run ended in the quarterfinals, where she was defeated 2-6, 4-6 by the eventual runner-up, Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

At the WTA level, FrÄ™ch has neither faced Anisimova nor Andreescu, and both these potential second-round matches will offer fans a new faceoff that they haven’t seen before on the Tour.
