Martina Navratilova’s Wife, Julia Lemigova, Reflects on Adoption Experience

Lemigova, who stars in the famous reality show “The Real Housewives of Miami,” shared in the fifth season that the couple plans to adopt a child since their daughters had moved out. It was temporarily halted due to Navratilova’s battle with cancer, but it resumed after she recovered. The couple expanded their family by welcoming two sons through adoption last year.

However, as Lemigova recently revealed, the experience was fraught with uncertainty. While filming the latest season, the 52-year-old balanced her excitement over adopting the boys with the legal complications that kept her from speaking openly.

“This season, you’ve seen a different side of me, one even I’ve struggled to fully explain.
The truth is, just before we began filming, something life-changing happened, I was given the chance to welcome two incredible boys into my life. It was sudden, emotional, and felt deeply destined,” she wrote in an Instagram story.

“But here’s the part no one saw: the adoptions weren’t finalized. Not yet. I was living in an emotional in-between, loving these boys fiercely while navigating legal uncertainty and keeping so much of it quiet,” she added.

Because the adoptions had not been finalized at the time, Lemigova struggled with emotional turmoil and stress, which made her cautious about sharing any details.

“It was overwhelming. Beautiful, yes, but also fragile, sacred, and stressful beyond words, which is why I was so cautious about sharing anything about them in writing,” she wrote.

In the premiere of the latest season (Season 7) of “The Real Housewives of Miami,” Lemigova scheduled a Zoom call with her co-stars to share this update. However, Guerdy Abraira’s call dropped midway. When Abraira requested a new link, Lemigova replied that she wanted to share the news with everyone. Abraira then messaged, “Congrats,” a brief response that Lemigova perceived as cold, further straining their relationship.

Lemigova clarified in her Instagram story that she was dealing with emotional turmoil when Abraira reached out at the time. She added that she never intended to appear cold or strange towards her co-star.
