Martina Navratilova Slams Tiger Woods After Latest Crash

Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Friday, March 27, 2026, following a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida. The incident occurred shortly before 2:00 PM when Woods, driving a Land Rover at a high rate of speed on a narrow two-lane road, attempted to overtake a pickup truck pulling a pressure-cleaner trailer.

As the truck slowed to turn into a driveway, Woods swerved to avoid it but clipped the back of the trailer, causing his vehicle to flip onto its driver’s side and slide across the pavement. Fortunately, no injuries were reported for either driver, and Woods was able to crawl out of the SUV’s passenger side on his own.

Responding officers from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office noted that Woods appeared “lethargic” and showed clear signs of impairment. While a breathalyzer test returned a result of .000 (no alcohol), Woods refused to submit to a urine test at the jail.

Investigators believe the impairment was likely caused by medication or drugs, noting that Woods had undergone his seventh back surgery just months prior in October 2025. He was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanors, and was released on bail after a mandatory eight-hour hold.

Reacting to the news, tennis legend Navratilova took to X to share her thoughts, writing, “Tiger needs to have his driving license taken away- before he hurts himself again and maybe someone else as well.”

How Many Major Car Incidents Has Woods Been Involved In?

This marks the fourth major automobile incident for Woods over the last 17 years. His first high-profile crash took place on Thanksgiving night in 2009 in Windermere, Florida, when he struck a fire hydrant and a tree outside his home. While that crash resulted only in a careless driving citation, it sparked a massive media firestorm that led to the public disclosure of his extramarital affairs and the subsequent collapse of his marriage.

In May 2017, Woods faced his first DUI arrest in Jupiter, Florida, after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz, which was parked in a bike lane with the engine running. Similar to the 2026 incident, he blew a .000 for alcohol but was found to have a mix of five prescription medications in his system, including Vicodin and Xanax. He eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving and entered a diversion program.

More recently, in February 2021, Woods was involved in a near-fatal single-vehicle rollover in Los Angeles. He was driving nearly double the speed limit on a winding road when his SUV crossed a median and hit a tree.

He suffered catastrophic injuries to his right leg, requiring a metal rod in his tibia and pins in his foot and ankle. While no charges were filed in that case, the recovery was so grueling that Woods later revealed doctors had considered amputating his leg.
