Maria Sharapova’s Tweet and the Story Behind the Viral Dance Video

Shortly after Sinner’s Wimbledon win, Sharapova took to social media with the message: “It is only appropriate to bring this back to the top of the feed. 🥳” She reposted her earlier tweet, which read, “I knew that one day you’ll regret this 🤣🤣 Congrats Champ!! patience, poise & class 🏆👏”. Both tweets featured a video of Sharapova and Sinner dancing and singing to “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” wearing festive reindeer hats.

The original video dates back to Christmas 2019. It was first shared publicly by Sharapova after Sinner’s Australian Open win in January 2024, where she teased him with the caption, “I knew that one day you’ll regret this,” turning the moment into a running joke between them. The video quickly became popular among fans, who enjoyed seeing two tennis stars having fun off the court.

The History Between Maria Sharapova and Jannik Sinner

Sharapova and Sinner’s connection goes beyond social media banter. Their friendship began in 2019, when they met and practiced together. Sinner has spoken about how Sharapova’s advice and professionalism helped him as a young player. He credited her with helping him become the youngest player in the ATP top 75, saying:

“I had the pleasure to know Maria a little bit more. We practiced sometimes together and knowing her personality as well. It’s great, especially for a guy who is 19 years old, and when Maria was there I was 18, it makes you grow obviously a little bit faster.”

Sinner now has 26 wins out of 29 matches so far during the 2025 season, winning two Grand Slams. The Italian had not won a single tournament since his successful title defense at the Melbourne Major, having been suspended for three months due to doping.

He returned to action during the italian Open and reached the final before losing to Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner then had his terrific run at the French Open, that ended in another defeat to the Spaniard in the title clash.

Following his Wimbledon triumph, the italian is next scheduled to compete at the Canadian Open.
