Lorenzo Musetti vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview: Head-to-Head and Prediction for Vienna Open 2025

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Lorenzo Musetti is one of the most interesting first-round matchups in Vienna.

In a contest of one-handed backhands, fourt seed Lorenzo Musetti will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of the 2025 Vienna Open. Musetti’s season has been one where the Italian player has had excellent results on the clay, including a runner-up finish in Monte-Carlo and a semifinal run at the French Open. On hard courts, his best result was reaching the final of the Chengdu Open, where he lost to Alejandro Tabilo. Most recently, he lost 4-6, 6-7 (8) to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the quarterfinals of the European Open.

Meanwhile, it has been a season of struggle for Stefanos Tsitsipas. The former World No. 3 won a title this year at Dubai but other than that, the year has been forgetful for him as he has not made it past the quarterfinals at any tournament apart from the one he won.

Musetti vs Tsitsipas head-to-head

Musetti and Tsitsipas have faced each other seven times, with the Greek leading their head-to-head 5-2. The rivalry began with five consecutive victories for Tsitsipas, but the Italian won the last two fixtures, the most recent one being a 7-5, 7-6 (3) win at the Madrid Open. They have played only once on hard courts, with the Greek winning 6-1, 6-3 at the 2021 Mexican Open.

Musetti vs. Tsitsipas prediction

Playing on indoor hard courts is not one of Musetti’s strengths, as the Italian has yet to reach a final or make a significant run at any of the indoor hard court events. He has reached three career finals on hard courts, with his only title on the surface coming at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup.

Tsitspas has reached 16 hard-court finals in his career so far, including at the Australian Open final. He has won six titles on the surface, four of which have come indoors, including the 2019 ATP Finals. However, with his form declining in the last couple of years, he has not reached an indoor final since 2022.

In the only hard-court match they have played to date, Tsitsipas had a dominating victory over Musetti. The Greek player won 69 and 48% of the service and return points respectively, whereas the Italian won 52 and 31%. Tsitsipas won 85% of the first-serve points and found it easy to get past Musetti’s serve four times in the match.

Given their respective track records on indoor hard courts, Tsitspas might have an edge. However, considering the Greek’s current form and Musetti’s steady improvement on hard courts, the Italian is the favorite to win the upcoming match.

Prediction– Musetti to win in straight sets
