The two have met four times previously, with the head-to-head being split at 2-2. The last time they played, Hurkacz won 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

Injuries have prevented Musetti from playing a full schedule this year, with the Italian player having played only five events coming into Madrid. His clay-court season began with an opening round loss against Valentin Vacherot in Monte-Carlo. He won a couple of matches against the likes of Martin Landaluce and Corentin Moutet in Barcelona before losing to Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals.

Hurkacz was part of the title-winning Polish team at the United Cup, where he beat Alexander Zverev, Tallon Griekspoor, Taylor Fritz, and Stan Wawrinka. However, after that, the Pole had five successive opening-round exits, including at Indian Wells and Miami, losing to the likes of Aleksandar Kovacevic and Ethan Quinn. He started his clay-court campaign in Monte-Carlo, where he reached the third round with wins over Luciano Darderi and Fabian Marozsan, before losing to Vacherot in the third round.

Musetti vs Hurkacz Prediction

Musetti has been a proven clay-court player, with three finals to his name, his only title coming in Hamburg in 2022. Hurkacz has reached two clay-court finals in his career, winning the 2024 Estoril Open title with a win over Pedro Martinez. He also reached the final at the Geneva Open last year, where Novak Djokovic edged him out in a close three-set battle.
