The 2025 Laver Cup will occur from September 19-21, 2025, at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California, marking the first time the event is staged on the U.S. West Coast. Played on indoor hard courts, the annual team competition pits Team Europe against Team World in a format inspired by golf’s Ryder Cup.

The event was co-created by Roger Federer and honors Australian legend Rod Laver, with matches counting as official ATP Tour contests. Yannick Noah leads Team Europe alongside vice-captain Tim Henman, while Andre Agassi takes charge of Team World, assisted by Pat Rafter.

Alcaraz and Zverev will spearhead Team Europe, joined by Holger Rune, Ruud, Jakub Menšík, Flavio Cobolli, and Tomáš Macháč (Alt). Across the net, Team World boasts Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur as its top names, supported by Francisco Cerúndolo, Alex Michelsen, Fonseca, Reilly Opelka, and Jenson Brooksby (Alt).

A total of 12 matches, nine singles and three doubles, are played across three days. Wins are worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday. The first team to collect 13 points secures the Cup. If the score is tied at 12-12 after all matches, the event culminates in a single deciding doubles set.

How Has the Rivalry Between Team Europe and Team World Evolved?

The Laver Cup has featured a fascinating rivalry between Team Europe and Team World since its inception in 2017. Europe dominated the early editions, led by legends such as Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. They captured the first title in 2017 in Prague, winning 15-9, and followed it up with another triumph in 2018 in Chicago, where they secured a 13-8 victory.

The 2019 edition in Geneva was the closest of Europe’s early wins, with the hosts edging out Team World 13-11. Their most dominant performance came in 2021 in Boston, when Europe crushed World 14-1 in a one-sided contest.

At the 2022 London edition, which also marked Federer’s emotional farewell from professional tennis, Team World finally broke through with a 13-8 victory, claiming their first-ever title. Building on that momentum, they defended their crown in 2023 in Vancouver, dismantling Europe 13-2. Europe regained the trophy in 2024 in Berlin, defeating Team World 13-11 to restore their dominance.

Overall, after seven editions of the Laver Cup, Team Europe leads the head-to-head 5–2, having won the first four and the latest tournament, while Team World has captured just two.
