How Did an Unseeded Boulter Storm Her Way to the Ostrava Open Crown?
After a difficult 2025 season marred by an abductor injury and a ranking that had slipped to No. 120, the British star entered the tournament unseeded. Under the guidance of her new coach, Michael Joyce, she navigated the indoor hard courts, dropping only two sets the entire week and ultimately securing her fourth career WTA singles title on Feb. 7, 2026.
Her path to the trophy began with a hard-fought opening match against Czech wildcard Lucie Havlíčková, whom Boulter eventually overpowered 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. She then dismantled fifth seed Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 16 and followed it up with a 68-minute masterclass against home favorite Linda Fruhvirtová, whom she defeated 6-3, 6-2.
In the semifinals, Boulter continued her streak of straight-set victories by dominating American Katie Volynets 6-1, 6-3, a win that guaranteed her a return to the world’s top 100. The championship match against Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch was a nearly two-hour rollercoaster.
Boulter initially struggled to close out the first set, losing four consecutive games to drop it 5-7. However, she shifted her tactics, reeling off 12 of the final 15 games of the match, overwhelming Korpatsch with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 scoreline. This victory was a milestone for the 29-year-old, marking her first title since her dual wins in San Diego and Nottingham in 2024. The win propelled her ranking up to No. 84.
