Katie Boulter Cheers on From Afar as Alex de Minaur Triumphs in Washington

De Minaur, seeded seventh in the tournament, completed a stellar campaign in the U.S. capital by overcoming a formidable draw. The 2018 Washington finalist brushed aside Yunchaokete Bu, 11th seed Jiri Lehecka, 14th seed Brandon Nakashima, and Frenchman Corentin Moutet to book his place in a 19th career final.

On Sunday, he battled past 12th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, saving three match points in a dramatic three-set final, prevailing 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(3) to win his first title of the 2025 season.

Boulter, who competed in the WTA event at the same venue but bowed out in the opening round, turned to Instagram to express her admiration. In one of her Instagram Stories shared post-match, she wrote: “No words, pure madness. The man you are, the champion you are. I’m in awe @alexdeminaur.”

In a second story, Boulter posted a video of herself watching the final in real time from a restaurant with friends, with her eyes fixed on the screen as she cheered her fiancé.

In her third story, Boulter shared a touching moment from the post-match proceedings where De Minaur could be seen embracing a visibly dejected Davidovich Fokina and offering words of comfort. The crowd in the stadium responded with warm applause, acknowledging the sportsmanship and humility displayed by the Aussie even in victory.
