Plíšková vs Potapova Head-to-Head Record
This will be the second meeting between these two players on the WTA Tour, with Plíšková coming out on top the last time they met. She claimed a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win over Potapova in Doha in 2024.
This will be their first meeting on clay, and Potapova is enjoying an excellent run on the red dirt. She made the final in Linz, losing to Mirra Andreeva in three sets. After the heartbreak of narrowly losing in her second qualifying match, the 25-year-old was awarded a lucky loser spot in the main draw.
Potapova appears to be making the most of her opportunity. She defeated Jeļena Ostapenko in the third round before handing Rybakina a shock 7-6 (8), 6-4 defeat in the last 16.
The Austrian showcased incredible resilience against the world No. 2, firing several remarkable winners and forcing her in-form opponent into making uncharacteristic errors. She also played excellent defensive tennis while returning, successfully nullifying Rybakina’s usually dominant serve.
Plíšková, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, will hope to use her experience to her advantage on Wednesday. The 34-year-old has a decent clay-court record and made the semifinals in Madrid in 2018.
En route to the quarterfinals, Plíšková has overcome the in-form Elise Mertens and Maria Sakkari.
Plíšková vs Potapova Prediction and Pick
Neither player would have expected to reach the quarterfinals in Madrid, but the draw is wide open after several big names were eliminated early.

Plíšková has plenty of experience and has won three clay-court titles. But Potapova is playing some of the best tennis of her career and will have her sights set on making a first-ever WTA 1000 semifinal.
