Karolína Muchová has clinched the second title of her career after defeating rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko in straight sets at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, a WTA 1000 tournament held from February 8 to 14, 2026, at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. After securing her special victory, the Czech star expressed her relief and gratitude while also acknowledging Mboko’s future potential and talents.

Karolína Muchová Ends Title Drought and Shares a Warm Message for Victoria Mboko

Muchová began her 2026 season with the Brisbane International, where she advanced to the semifinal round, defeating Elena Rybakina, Ajla Tomljanović, and Ekaterina Alexandrova on the way. She lost the semifinal to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka, who had successfully defended her title.

She also played in doubles with Priscilla Hon, ending their run with a quarterfinal loss to Hsieh Su-wei and Jeļena Ostapenko. She then entered the Australian Open as the 19th seed, ending her campaign with a fourth-round loss to Coco Gauff. At the Qatar Open, she was the 14th seed and defeated Karolína Plíšková, Anna Kalinskaya, Maria Sakkari, and others to reach the final.

In the final match, she surpassed the 19-year-old with a final scoreline of 6-4, 7-5 in 1 hour and 34 minutes to clinch her first title since 2019, which she had claimed after surpassing Magda Linette at the KEB Hana Bank Korea Open. After the win, the World No. 19 shared her emotions, expressing the significance of her win, while also highlighting Mboko’s talents on the court.

She mentioned, as per The Tennis Letter’s X post, “It’s been a while since I won a tournament. It’s just nice to get that feeling again and to be reminded of that victory feeling here in Doha. It’s incredible. Thank you very much. I’d like to congratulate Victoria. You’re still a teenager if I’m not mistaken. You play with so much maturity and you play incredible. It’s been an incredible week for you. Congratulations. I’m sure you have many titles ahead of you. Wherever your team is, congrats guys and good luck the rest of the season.”

While expressing her heartfelt appreciation for her team, she continued, “I’m so excited as well for my team that we get to experience this together. Thank you for standing here with me. Thank you everyone. Your support means a lot. I’m just very glad that we get to celebrate it and live this win together.”

With the win, Muchová crushed Mboko’s hopes of clinching her second WTA 1000 title; her first came at the 2025 Canadian Open, where she defeated Japanese star Naomi Osaka in the final.
