Karolína Muchová’s path in tennis has been remarkable, from her breakthrough in 2013 to overcoming injuries and reaching a career-best run in 2026. As she faces Coco Gauff in the women’s singles semifinals at the Wimbledon Championships, here’s all you need to know about the Czech tennis star.
All About Karolína Muchová Ahead of Coco Gauff Clash
Muchová Is the Daughter of a Czech Soccer Star
Muchová is the daughter of Hana Muchová and Josef Mucha. Her father is a former soccer player who played as a midfielder for several prominent Czech teams. After retirement, Mucha became a soccer coach.
It is Mucha who introduced his daughter to tennis. Muchová grew up playing multiple sports and picked tennis over handball at 12. She developed her tennis skills at one of the most prestigious tennis training centers in the country, the I. ČLTK Prague.
Muchová Grew Up Idolizing Roger Federer
Muchová has stated on several occasions that Roger Federer is her idol. She even based her playing style on the Swiss maestro’s game and was dubbed the Federer of women’s tennis by Iga Świątek earlier this year.
“I looked up to Roger [Federer] and players like this, playing this aggressive, attacking style, and I saw myself in that a little bit, in the way I would like to play the game. That helped, and I tried to play some similar shots, and I just enjoy the game to play it this way,” Muchová told the Guardian in 2023.
Muchová Turned Pro in 2013
Muchová made her ITF debut in 2013 at the age of 17 and won her first title at the level the following year. After a brief period of struggle, she found her form again in 2016, and a WTA Tour debut soon followed.
The Czech player made her Major debut at the 2018 US Open, going from qualifying to upsetting Garbiñe Muguruza and making the third round. She then won her maiden WTA Tour title at the Korea Open in 2019 and continued her rise up the rankings.
Muchová is a Five-Time Major Semifinalist
Muchová has reached the semifinals of Grand Slams on five occasions. Her first Major semifinal came at the 2021 Australian Open. She then made back-to-back semifinals at the US Open in 2023 and 2024. Her best result at a Grand Slam came at the 2023 French Open, where she lost to Świątek in the final.
The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will mark her fifth Grand Slam semifinal and complete the set of semifinal appearances at all four Majors.
Muchová Has Won Three WTA Tour Titles
Despite being one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour, Karolína Muchová has fallen short at the last hurdle of tournaments on six occasions. She has reached nine finals and won three titles on the WTA Tour.
Her first title came in Korea in 2019, and she ended a seven-year wait to triumph again on the WTA Tour by winning the Qatar Open this year. Her third title came at the Bad Homburg Open in June.
Muchová Underwent Wrist Surgery in 2024
Muchová has faced several injuries over the course of her career and has had to spend significant time on the sidelines. After injuring her right wrist during the 2023 US Open, she underwent surgery in February 2024. The injury sidelined her for nearly ten months.
A left wrist injury suffered during the Miami Open hindered her progress for much of the 2025 season. To adapt while recovering, she switched her two-handed backhand to a one-handed sliced backhand while recovering.
Muchová is Coached By Sven Groeneveld
Some famous names have served as Muchová’s coaches over the years, including former World No. 13 Kirsten Flipkens and Petra Kvitová’s former coach David Kotyza.
