Jessica Pegula was recently seen assessing her opponent as she watched the round of 32 match between Iva Jović and Diana Shnaider, which the 18-year-old won. The World No. 5 has reached the round of 16, where she will face fellow American Jović at the WTA 1000 tournament, the Dubai Tennis Championships, after defeating Russian-French star Varvara Gracheva in straight sets.

Pegula has begun her 2026 season at the Brisbane International and delivered promising results, reaching the semifinal. In the first Grand Slam of the season, the American star once again reached the semifinal round after surpassing stars including McCartney Kessler, Madison Keys, Amanda Anisimova, and others. In the semifinal, she fell short to the eventual champion, Elena Rybakina.
She has entered the Dubai Tennis Championships, an outdoor hard-court tournament scheduled from February 15 to 21, 2026, as the fourth seed. The Buffalo, New York, native was present for the match between Jović and Shnaider, as the rising American clinched the match with a final scoreline of 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.

In her round of 64, Jović had surpassed Kamilla Rakhimova with a final score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. She entered the Dubai tournament as the 16th seed in her debut and has also reached her career-high ranking, World No. 20.

Considering her success, the teenager reflected, “Even though my ranking is where it is right now, I still feel very new on the tour. So, I do feel like there’s a lot I still need to learn. But obviously it’s nice when you feel you’re still developing, but you’re already in a nice place. I’ve earned my spot to be in these nice places and hopefully it can stay this way.”
She also reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Melbourne Park, emerging as one of the Tour’s top talents. She added, “I tried to not have a lot of expectations. I definitely felt I was getting better and doing the right things, but you never know when it’s going to click and how long it’s going to take you.”
Apart from her singles run, Pegula has also participated in the doubles category with partner Giuliana Olmos, the former World No. 6. The duo defeated Zhang Shuai and Elise Mertens in the round of 16 and will face Luisa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski in the quarterfinals.
