Jessica Pegula’s Mate Reflects on Her Work Ethic and Mindset Despite Her Opulence

Her close friend, former World No. 13, and one of the hosts of “The Player’s Box Podcast,” has recently shed light on Pegula’s humility, passion for the sport, and her consistency, given her background.

At Melbourne Park, Pegula continued her dominance, surpassing Anastasia Zakharova, McCartney Kessler, her friend Madison Keys, and others to reach her first semifinal. Before the first Grand Slam, she entered the Brisbane International, where she advanced to the semifinals, losing to Marta Kostyuk.

In her last season, Pegula was the first player to clinch three titles on three different surfaces. She won the Charleston Open on clay, the ATX Open on hardcourt, and the Bad Homburg Open on grass after overcoming World No. 2, Iga Świątek. Apart from this, she delivered consistent and notable performances in other tournaments. She also reached the semifinal of the WTA Finals, losing to eventual champion Rybakina.

Pegula’s friend recently appeared on “The Changeover Podcast,” where she discussed her return to the court after more than two years away due to a serious knee injury that required major surgery, among other essential topics.

Jennifer Brady, who has now returned to competition with the ITF W100 San Diego tournament, recently expressed her respect and admiration for Pegula, who is spearheading her career with prominence despite her affluent background.

She added, “She’s so humble and down to earth, even just like coming from her background, you know. It’s really cool to see, with what her parents have done, her families, her parents obviously I think everybody knows are billionaires. And to do what she’s doing, she doesn’t even have to play tennis.”

Brady continued highlighting her hopes for Pegula, “She doesn’t have to grind, she doesn’t have to do what she’s doing, but she’s doing it and she loves it and she wants to do more and more. I really hope she gets over that finals hurdle and is holding a trophy. She’s so consistent.”

Pegula is the daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula, who rose to wealth from oil and gas and owns the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League, and the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League.

Pegula has Korean ancestry, as her mother, Kim Pegula, is a South Korean-born businesswoman. She has two siblings, Kelly and Matthew, and Michael and Laura from her father’s previous marriage.
