Jessica Pegula recently shed light on Coco Gauff’s serving dread before the 1-Point Slam. The event, jam-packed with entertainment, action, and memorable fun, featured ATP and WTA stars competing against amateur players and state champions, earning positive reviews from fans and players.

The World No. 6 has commenced her 2026 campaign at the Brisbane International, where she advanced to the semifinals, defeating Anna Kalinskaya, Dayana Yastremska, and Liudmila Samsonova, and then lost to Marta Kostyuk, who went on to lose the title to defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.
After Brisbane, she withdrew from Adelaide, coming straight to the Australian Open, where she ousted Anastasia Zakharova in the first round.
During the recent episode of ‘The Player’s Box Podcast‘, Pegula, along with defending Australian Open champion Madison Keys, Desirae Krawczyk, and Jennifer Brady, discussed the hilarious moments from the One Million One Point Slam, with the billionaire heiress revealing how Gauff was dreading her serve for the event.
While highlighting what happened behind the scenes, Pegula shared that she practised for more than an hour with Gauff, who expressed her serving anxiety, as the event followed a one-point format.
She shared light-heartedly, “I actually hit with her before she did it. So we hit for almost, I don’t know, 90 minutes, basically, before she went out, and we hit kind of late that day, and she was talking about, like, I just don’t want to serve. I just don’t want to serve one serve. I’m going to be so nervous.”
Pegula continued revealing Gauff’s shocked and embarrassing emotions after she missed her serve against Donna Vekić, “And then obviously didn’t go well. I saw her in the tunnel there; she was watching and I’m like what happened? how was it? And she’s like I just completely melt down. I choked it was so bad. I was out so quickly. So everyone was very nervous. I understand. It’s not easy.”
However, despite missing her serve, Gauff didn’t let her hopes dwindle, taking consolation from the fact that the World No. 2, Jannik Sinner, and Frances Tiafoe also lost similarly at the event. Through her X post, she had also mentioned, “i feel better about missing my serve now that Jannick and Foe did 😭 #NotAlone.”
Coming onto their Grand Slam runs, Pegula is set to face McCartney Kessler in her second round and holds a 72% chance of winning the game, as per PFSN’s exclusive interactive simulator. Whereas, Gauff will clash with Olga Danilović in the next round and has an 86% chance of winning.
