Jannik Sinner continued his record-breaking run on the ATP Tour on Thursday as he made the semifinals of the Italian Open with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrey Rublev. Despite not being at his best, Sinner managed to see off the challenge of the Russian to book his spot in yet another semifinal.
Jannik Sinner’s Family Cheers Him On To Yet Another Victory
The win saw Sinner extend his ATP Masters 1000 winning streak to 32, helping him pip Novak Djokovic’s 31-match unbeaten run set in 2021. The Italian was cheered on by his family at the Foro Italico on Thursday.
Sinner’s parents, Siglinde and Hanspiter, were both in attendance at center court for the quarterfinal. In addition, his brother Mark also turned up with his girlfriend to cheer for the four-time Grand Slam champion. He missed the early rounds of the Italian Open, but his parents have been cheering him on since the start of the action in Rome.

It has been a near-perfect campaign in Rome so far for Sinner, who has made it to the semifinals without dropping a set. He is aiming to win a sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 tournament at the Italian Open, a feat that has never been accomplished before.
The last time Sinner lost at a Masters tournament was at the Shanghai Masters, where he was forced to retire in the third set of his third-round match against Tallon Griekspoor.
Following his win over Rublev, Sinner said that breaking records is not what motivates him. Rather, he is focused on continuing to improve and writing his own story.
“I don’t play for records. I play just for my own story. At the same time it means a lot to me, but tomorrow is another opponent… Now the highest priority for me is trying to recover as much as I can physically. We’ll see how it goes. Emotionally, it takes a lot playing here at home. At the same time, I’ll definitely try to do my best. In any way, it’s a win-win situation for me,” he said during his post-match on-court interview.

The win over Rublev also helped Sinner become only the second player, after Rafael Nadal, to reach the semifinals of the first five ATP Masters 1000 tournaments of the year. He won the Sunshine Double before starting his clay-court swing with victories in Monte-Carlo and Madrid.
Sinner now has his sights set on lifting the Italian Open for the first time in his career. And if he keeps playing the way he has so far, it is very difficult to see anyone stopping him.
