Jannik Sinner’s quest for a successful title defense in Cincinnati came to an end in an unfortunate manner as he was forced to retire from his final against Carlos Alcaraz. In light of this, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina spoke out against the match’s timings, among other things.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s Comments After Jannik-Sinner Carlos Alcaraz Cincinnati Final
There was a lot of hype built around the Carlos Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner final in Cincinnati due to the prior monumental clashes between the two. However, the match finished when the italian decided to retire while trailing 0-5 during the opening set.
Davidovich Fokina took to X and lashed out over the final’s timing along with the fact that many players retired during the tournaments that took place in Cincinnati and Toronto.
“A Monday final at 3pm in August in Cincinnati, after the whole Toronto–Cincinnati swing, with so many retirements and players dead tired… something needs to change,” the Spaniard wrote.

This is not the first time Davidovich Fokina spoke out against scheduling as just a few days back, he criticized the ATP for one of his Canadian Open matches being scheduled for 11 am.
“Today I want to share my disappointment and frustration with the ATP. Tomorrow, every match starts at 12:30, except ours, which has been scheduled at 11:00. We’re staying one hour away from the club, which means we have to wake up extremely early to arrive in good condition,” the Spaniard said.
”Once again, it’s clear that players are not taken into consideration. Today it happened to others, tomorrow it’s me, and from the day after, all matches return to 12:30. There are plenty of available courts, yet we’re the only ones playing at 11:00,” he added.
The Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open used to each take place over a week. However, the expanded format has seen both tournaments been extended to 12 days each.
Coco Gauff’s Ex-Coach Brad Gilbert on Sinner’s Struggles in Cincinnati Final
Brad Gilbert took to X and stated that he hoped the issues Sinner faced during the Cincinnati Open final were only minor.
“Hopefully it’s just minor what happened to Sin City,” the American wrote.
