World No. 2 Jannik Sinner has arrived in Beijing for the China Open with a new team member, having recently spoken about how they are integrating into his setup. The Italian will face former finalist Marin Čilić in his opening match on Sept. 25, marking his first tournament appearance since losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final.
What Did Jannik Sinner Say About the Coaching Team Move?
Following months of changes in his support staff, Sinner recently added Alejandro Resnicoff to his team as his new physiotherapist. When a reporter asked about what changes this new addition has brought to his routine, the Italian gave an honest response.
“Look, no specific changes. I mean, on the court we are changing a lot. Off the court is more or less the same,” Sinner explained during his press conference, making it clear that the focus remains primarily on his tennis development.
The World No. 2 was full of praise for Resnicoff’s experience and the seamless way he has integrated into the team structure. “He’s a very experienced physio, obviously being on the ATP Tour for 15 years, more or less. Also before he had other tennis players, so. He has a lot of experience,” Sinner noted, emphasizing the wealth of knowledge his new team member brings.
Sinner was particularly pleased with how respectfully Resnicoff has approached while joining an established team dynamic. “He also respects how we are as a team. It’s not that he comes in and he’s changing everything. If he sees that we have or could potentially improve something for my body, he’s here to help. This is how it works,” the Italian explained.
While acknowledging that building an effective working partnership takes time, Sinner expressed his appreciation for having such an experienced professional on board.
“But it also takes time. I’ve worked with him a little bit in the years when I didn’t have my physio. Not as much. Obviously now having him for me, it’s a huge privilege. He’s super, super experienced. A very honest person, nice and kind person. He also has a family at home. He has a nice situation also off work,” Sinner shared.

The Italian concluded his thoughts on a positive note, stating: “Yeah, it’s everything going in the right direction.”
What Does Alejandro Resnicoff Bring to Team Sinner?
Resnicoff joins Sinner’s team with impressive tennis credentials. He has served as the ATP’s Director of Medical Services since 2010 and worked on the professional tour for over twenty years with various players throughout his distinguished career.
The Argentine physiotherapist has previously assisted Sinner during crucial moments in his career, including the 2024 US Open semifinals and his memorable 2023 Wimbledon run, which has given them a foundation of understanding to build upon.
Sinner will open his China Open campaign against Čilić on Sept. 25, facing the Croatian veteran who has reached the Beijing finals twice. Čilić currently ranks 97th worldwide and has managed just two hard-court victories this season so far.

The Italian star boasts an impressive 9-1 record at the China Open, having captured the 2023 title with a commanding straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev in the final. However, his last year’s tournament ended in disappointment when Alcaraz mounted a stunning comeback to defeat him 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) in a thrilling final.
With Alcaraz having withdrawn from this year’s China Open to compete in Tokyo instead, Sinner looks to reclaim the Beijing title.
