Coach Darren Cahill Offers a Glimpse Into Jannik Sinner’s Off-Court Persona

After defeating seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, the top seed exacted revenge over two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final, winning in four sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

The win came just weeks after Sinner fell short against Alcaraz in the French Open final.

In the pursuit of his maiden Wimbledon final, the Italian tennis star defeated Luca Nardi, Aleksandar Vukic, Pedro Martínez, 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov, 10th seed Ben Shelton, and Djokovic.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, the Australian coach described Sinner as someone who enjoys the simple things and is always good for a laugh.

“He’s a fun-loving guy who’s joking around all the time,” Cahill said. “He just loves the company of the people around him. He’s cooking, he’s messing up stuff, he’s making mistakes all over the place. We’re laughing about it. It’s a good group of people.”

Cahill also credited Sinner’s grounded upbringing for shaping both his personality and his professionalism. “I speak about his parents all the time and his upbringing and his grounded upbringing… the way he treats the people around him. He’s a good man. He’s a good young fellow. Always has a smile on his face,” he shared.

While Sinner may come across as serious and stoic during matches, Cahill emphasized that this focused demeanor is just one part of who he is.

“The person you see on the tennis court, this focus, this attention to detail… he’s not the same guy off the court,” he added. “But he has the mentality on a tennis court that is special. And that’s why he and Carlos are doing what they’re doing.”

“I would really like to thank my team and everyone who came here for this special day. It means so much to me. You give me so much emotions on and off the court and we try to keep pushing and trying to become a better tennis player, but mostly a better person.”
