Jannik Sinner looks to make more history as he takes on Casper Ruud in the Italian Open final. The Italian has looked unstoppable in recent months and is currently on a 28-match winning streak. However, Ruud has also been in inspired form in Rome and will hope to use his clay-court experience to spring an upset in the final.

Sinner vs Ruud Head-to-Head Record
Sinner has dominated the head-to-head battle against Ruud, leading 4-0 without dropping a set. Their last meeting came at the 2025 Italian Open, where the 24-year-old won 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
But Ruud has found his groove on clay again this year, losing just one set en route to the Italian Open final. The Norwegian has claimed some impressive wins in Rome, defeating Jiří Lehečka, Lorenzo Musetti, and Luciano Darderi.
Sinner has also been firing on all cylinders in Rome, looking a class apart from the rest of the ATP Tour. Although Daniil Medvedev did give him a scare in the semifinals by taking a set off him, and Ruud will look to use that match as a blueprint on how to hurt Sinner.
There is also the case of Sinner dealing with some physical discomfort. He called for a medical timeout during his match against Medvedev, then had to return on Saturday to close out the win, as the match was suspended due to rain.
Sinner vs Ruud Prediction and Pick
Sinner enters this contest as the overwhelming favorite to win. The world No. 1 looks unassailable at the moment and has his sights set on completing the Career Golden Slam by winning the Italian Open for the first time.
Ruud has more experience of playing in clay-court finals, and will hope to use that know-how to his advantage on Sunday.
The 23rd seed plays his best tennis on clay and has the wherewithal to keep up with Sinner, even if their past meetings haven’t shown that. He also boasts a dominant forehand that works well on clay, and his on-court mobility could frustrate Sinner, who may not be at 100% physically.
The key to this match could well be whether Sinner can get things over with quickly. If the match goes long, Ruud’s confidence will grow, and he will fancy his chances of pulling off what would be one of the biggest upsets in recent tennis history.
But we are still firmly expecting Sinner to continue his unprecedented run and make it six straight Masters titles by defeating Ruud.
Pick – Sinner in three sets.
