Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s Picture With Piers Morgan, Months After He ‘Tore Down’ the Italian Sparks Outrage in Tennis Community

Piers Morgan's recent picture with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner did not go down well with fans.

Controversial British broadcaster Piers Morgan found himself in hot water with tennis fans after sharing a photo with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the Six Kings Slam final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The picture sparked outrage online, as many remembered Morgan’s past harsh criticism of Sinner, particularly during the Italian’s doping controversy.

Backstory of Piers Morgan’s Controversial Relationship with Jannik Sinner

Morgan has been outspoken in his criticism of Sinner’s doping case, particularly regarding the leniency of his punishment. In 2024, after Sinner tested positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol due to contamination from his physiotherapist’s over-the-counter hand spray, he was cleared of intentional wrongdoing by an independent tribunal.

However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed this decision, leading to a settlement in February 2025 where Sinner accepted a three-month suspension without forfeiting any titles, prize money, or ranking points.

Morgan expressed his disapproval on social media, labeling the settlement as a “joke” and questioning the fairness of negotiated drug offense punishments in sports. He also criticized the lack of financial penalties and the retention of Sinner’s titles and ranking, implying preferential treatment for the World No. 1. He also mocked Sinner’s Italian victories in tournaments like the US Open.

Despite his past criticism, Morgan posted a picture on X alongside Sinner and Alcaraz with the caption, “Only one Sinner here… and for once, it’s not me! Good luck in tomorrow’s #sixkingsslam final, gentlemen – and see you soon in Cambio de Tercio, Carlos !”

Fans Express Disbelief at Morgan’s Friendly Pose with Sinner

The post immediately drew a wave of reactions from fans, many of whom expressed disbelief and anger. One user wrote, “You’ve been bi*ching about #Sinner with that gigantic loser of @NickKyrgios and you even tweeted he is a dope and should be banned for 2 years when in reality he was only involved in contamination. Now you post this. You are truly rancid! Jannik manda a cagare sto coglione!”

Another fan commented, “The same Piers Morgan who criticised Jannik’s Wimbledon win, now happily posing with him. So glad Novak didn’t bump into him in Riyadh. Nauseating stuff.”

Other reactions included, “Not long ago you were calling him a drug cheat. Geez, you really are shameless,” and “You’re lucky Sinner is so classy and doesn’t give a sh*t about what the media and people like you say.”

On fan added, “The guy in the middle has no shame being next to Jannik after what he tweeted about him! This shows not to take hypocrites’ words seriously! You guys know what I mean.”

Fans also questioned Morgan’s motives with comments like, “So when are you amending what you said about Sinner last year? Or do you make a habit of taking pictures with people you have previously torn down?” and “A bit hypocritical, considering how you’ve spoken about Sinner in the past.”

The 2024 Six Kings Slam champion, Sinner, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-3 and then former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final, where he will take on Alcaraz at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.
