Jack Draper recently discussed his upcoming quarterfinal match against Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Italian Open. It will be the pair’s third meeting this season.

Jack Draper Makes His Feelings Known About Facing Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Italian Open

Both Draper and Alcaraz, seeded at the 2025 Italian Open, began their respective runs in the second round after receiving first-round byes. Draper advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Luciano Darderi, qualifier Vít Kopřiva, and Corentin Moutet.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, secured his spot in the last eight after knocking out qualifier Dušan Lajović, Laslo Djere, and Karen Khachanov.

Ahead of his match against Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper mentioned on the Tennis Channel that playing against the Spaniard on clay could turn out to be a “difficult challenge” for him, considering the Spaniard’s affinity for the surface.

“Yeah, it’s a very different match. Carlos, big respect for him, you know. Great player, someone who always competes hard on the dirt. He’s going to be a very difficult challenge for me, I’m aware of that, obviously,” Jack Draper said.

The Brit recalled his upcoming opponent’s recent accolades on the surface, which include a title win at the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters and a runner-up finish at the Barcelona Open.

“Won the French last year, coming off the back of wins in Monte-Carlo and the final in Barca. So I’m not quite sure what to expect, but I know that I’m going to give my best for every point. I’m going to try and be aggressive and do my thing,” he added.

It should be noted that Draper, too, has made great strides on clay this season, reaching his second Masters 1000 final at the Madrid Open.

Draper and Alcaraz’s first encounter came in the opening round of the 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel, where the latter triumphed with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. They next met in the fourth round of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters, where the Spaniard claimed a 6-2, 2-0 (retd.) win and subsequently captured the title.

Draper scored his first victory during their second-round meeting at the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships, where he knocked out the defending champion with a 7-6(3), 6-3 scoreline. Their next match in the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open again ended in the Brit’s retirement, as the Spaniard progressed with the score reading 7-5, 6-1 retd.
