The Wimbledon 2025 qualifying rounds wrapped up on Thursday, June 26, with a blend of seasoned names and emerging talents booking their spots in the main draw. Among them, one standout was American teenager Iva Jovic, who defeated Poland’s Katrzyna Kawa 6-3, 7-6(2) and secured a place in the Wimbledon main draw for the first time in her career
The teenager has been making waves this season and recently captured her first Challenger title earlier this month. As Jovic prepares to make her Wimbledon debut, all eyes will be on the rising star next week to see how far her momentum can carry her.
Iva Jovic’s Life and Career
Iva Jovic is quickly emerging as one of the brightest young talents in American tennis. She was born in Torrance to Bojan and Jelena, who were immigrants from Serbia.
The American started playing tennis from the age of five and had an impressive junior doubles career. She won two girls’ doubles titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2024, partnering Tyra Caterina Grant. That year, the pair were also the runner-up in the girls’ doubles event at the French Open.
Jovic made her senior professional debut at an ITF 15k event and reached the final before losing to Eryn Cayetano. The teenager made her Grand Slam singles debut at the 2024 US Open and booked her place in the second round after beating Magda Linette 6-4, 6-3. Here, she suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 5-7 loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova.
This season, Jovic has won four out of eight main-draw matches so far on the WTA Tour. She reached the second round of the Australian Open, French Open, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, and the Copa Colsanitas. The teenager also won a W100 event in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Jovic entered the Wimbledon qualifiers as the third seed and reached the final round after three-set wins over Linda Klimovicova and Julia Riera. Here, she triumphed 6-3, 7-6(2) over Katarzyna Kawa to book her place in the main draw.
Iva Jovic Will Face Suzan Lamens in Wimbledon 2025 1R
Iva Jovic’s first Wimbledon main-draw match will come against Suzan Lamens. The Dutchwoman, who is 68th in the WTA rankings, is entering the grass-court Major after failing to qualify for the main draw of the Eastbourne Open.
Lamens has won 14 out of 27 matches so far this season, most notably reaching the semifinals of the Open de Rouen. Jovic and Lamens will lock horns for the first time and whoever out of the two comes out on top, will take on either 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova or Priscilla Hon in the second round of Wimbledon 2025.
