What Did Iva Jović Say About Emiliana Arango After Winning the Guadalajara Title?

Coming off a second-round exit at the US Open, Jović didn’t let that setback slow her down as she pushed through the WTA 500 event. She fought past Katarzyna Kawa, Camila Osorio, and Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva, then knocked out Nikola Bartunkova to lock up a spot in the final. The title match set the stage for a tough showdown with Emiliana Arango.

However, Arango was under the weather and struggled during the match, giving Jović the edge. Even with the illness slowing her, Arango fought hard before falling 4-6, 1-6 in an hour and 35 minutes. Jović didn’t just celebrate; she praised her opponent’s effort and urged the crowd to give Arango credit for her fight.

“Yeah, Firstly, I would like to congratulate Emiliana. I mean, you are such a great player, such a great person I know. Today, you weren’t feeling your best, but this happens and you showed so much fight and gave the people a show, which is much respect. So, everyone, please, for Emiliana and Felipe,” she said during her victory speech.

How Did Emiliana Arango Make Iva Jović Feel Better on Tour?

Building friendships outside the spotlight isn’t easy for a young pro. Yet Jović credited Arango’s upbeat attitude for helping her settle in, saying that having someone like the Colombian on tour lifts her spirits.

“And it’s not easy to start out on tour when you’re young and not have many friends, but, people like Emiliana make it Easier and always have a smile on their face and make me feel better on the tour, so thank you very much,” she said later.

With her Guadalajara victory, Jović moved from World No. 73 to No. 36 in the rankings, making it a career-high and a massive jump for the American teenager. Confidence is now on her side, and fans are left eager to see where she’ll go next in the 2025 campaign.
