Former Serena Williams Coach Reacts to Jović’s Guadalajara Victory with Bold Claim

In the aftermath of her triumph, Rick Macci, who once coached young Serena Williams, shared on X that the American teen is merely scratching the surface. “Iva Jovic age 17 is the real deal as mentally is cut from a different cloth. On top of that she hits the ball clean and can control time. Top ten is by year end 2026 and once there a permanent fix,” he wrote.

Jović’s climb in tennis started with a standout junior career, where she claimed 2024 doubles titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon with Tyra Caterina Grant and finished runner-up at Roland Garros.

She quickly made her mark in the professional ranks, capturing her first ITF title in Charlottesville and a WTA 125 crown in Ilkley in 2025. Along the way, she gained valuable Grand Slam experience, reaching the second round at the US Open, Australian Open, and French Open, and competing at Wimbledon this summer.
