Iga Świątek’s Coach Affirms There Won’t Be a ‘Drastic Change’ in Her Appearances Amid Sharp Scheduling Criticism

Iga Świątek's coach spoke about the Pole's participation amid her scheduling criticisms.

Iga Świątek’s coach, Wim Fissette, has recently shared his thoughts on the slight changes to the former’s 2026 season schedule, highlighting her limited break and lesser recovery period between 2025 tournaments. She concluded her fifth WTA Finals appearance with one win against Madison Keys and two losses against Amanda Anisimova and the eventual champion, Elena Rybakina, in her group stage matches.

Coach Wim Fissette Shares His Thoughts on Iga Świątek’s Season Performance and Her Schedule for Her 2026 Season

The Polish sensation began her 2025 season with the United Cup, representing Team Poland, which was her third appearance. Furthermore, in her season, she reached the semifinal rounds of the Australian Open, Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Madrid Open, and the French Open.

Apart from this, she reached the final round of the Bad Homburg Open and clinched the prestigious Wimbledon Championship, as well as the Cincinnati Masters, the Korea Open, and advanced to the quarterfinals of many other tournaments.

In his recent interview with Sport.pl, Fissette, who joined Świątek’s team in late 2024, reflected on her 2025 WTA Tour performances and how little rest and recovery the player had between the tournaments, among other significant factors.

He added, “We returned to competing in Asia, where a long trip awaited us. It was very intense; Iga played a lot of matches. The more matches you play, the less time you have to work on your game. The last time we had at least 10 days or two weeks to practice was before Wimbledon. Our experience working together during that period was very good.”

Fissette continued, “She reached the quarterfinals and semifinals many times, and therefore played only one or two fewer matches than if she had won the competition. I feel like we didn’t have enough time to train, or to truly recover between tournaments and always be 100 percent fresh physically and mentally for the next event.”

Apart from this, the prominent Belgian head coach, who had mentored elites like Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, and others in the past, further highlighted scheduling a change to her 2026 season, mentioning:

“Five or six would be a lot. I think even skipping one tournament can sometimes make a difference. We’ll see what happens, depending on Iga’s results and how she feels. But it won’t be a drastic schedule change.”

The six-time Grand Slam champion Świątek will make her fourth appearance at the 2026 United Cup, partnering with the former World No. 6, Hubert Hurkacz. She will be representing her homeland, Poland, on the international stage along with other top ATP and WTA stars.
