Following her heartbreaking loss at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Iga Świątek traveled to Florida for the Miami Open. Ahead of her campaign in Miami, she was seen looking tense during a practice session with her coach, Wim Fissette.
Iga Świątek Shows Frustration in Miami Practice After Indian Wells Exit
After parting ways with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, Świątek began working with coach Fissette in October 2024. The Belgian coach has previously worked with top WTA players like Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, and Angelique Kerber, among others.
At Indian Wells, Świątek defeated qualifier Kayla Day, Maria Sakkari, and Karolína Muchová before losing to Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals. What was unusual during her defeat against the Ukrainian was that she visibly showed her frustration by smashing her towel on the court, then collapsing into her chair before shouting at her team.
Since that tough loss in California, Świątek has begun training for the 2026 Miami Open. She was recently photographed during a training session with her coach, Fissette, looking tense, which has led to speculation that she is not satisfied with her game and form since the defeat at Indian Wells.

The 2026 Miami Open is scheduled to take place from March 17 to March 29, 2026. The matches will be held on outdoor hard courts at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Świątek recorded her best result at the tournament in 2022, when she defeated Naomi Osaka in the final to win her fourth WTA 1000-level title overall.
This year, Świątek is seeded second at the Miami Open and will begin her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She will face the winner of the first-round match between Varvara Gracheva and Magda Linette in her opening match.
Świątek and Gracheva have faced each other twice on the WTA Tour, with the former World No. 1 winning both matches. Their most recent encounter was in the second round of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, where Świątek secured a 6-0, 6-7(8), 6-2 victory.

Meanwhile, the six-time Grand Slam singles champion and Linette have faced each other only once on the WTA Tour, in the third round of the 2023 China Open, where Świątek won 6-1, 6-1.
The winner of the second-round match between Świątek and either Gracheva or Linette at the 2026 Miami Open will advance to face 31st seed Alexandra Eala, Laura Siegemund, or Petra Marčinko in the third round of the tournament.
