Iga Świątek Expresses Loyalty Towards Her Team as She Attacks Polish Media

Following the disappointing hard-court swing to start the 2026 season, Świątek made a big decision in her career, parting ways with her coach Fissette. She then took a break to recover and began her clay-court swing preparations with her new coach, Roig, who also coached the legendary Nadal and British Emma Raducanu.

She was seen practicing with the Clay King himself and is now set to compete in Stuttgart. Given her seeding, she received a first-round bye and is set to face German Laura Siegemund on Wednesday, April 15. However, even before the on-court action, the Pole engaged in verbal action during her press conference.

While announcing her separation from Fissette, Świątek clarified that she was continuing with the rest of her team, which includes psychologist Daria Abramowicz, fitness trainer and physiotherapist Maciej Ryszczuk, and hitting partner Tomasz Moczek. When a reporter questioned whether retaining her staff was a matter of loyalty, given how long they have been working together, Świątek gave a blunt reply. She said,

“No, it was more for Polish media, which was super harsh to the whole team. There were a lot of, like, speculations. With one sentence, I can basically cut them. I just did that.”

The World No. 4 did not hesitate to raise her fingers at the Polish media, calling them out for their “super harsh” behavior towards her team. Shifting the conversation towards the reason behind her coaching change, she said,

“In sports, if you want to go forward, obviously loyalty is great, but if something is not working, you need to react ’cause our careers are not long, you know? We don’t have time to waste time.”

These words reflect Świątek’s championship mentality, which led to the immense success early in her career. Taking immediate action on what isn’t working is something she is known for, and her statement fully justified it.

She then explained exactly why she has kept the rest of the team as it is, stating, “Yeah, the work that I’m doing with Maciej and Daria, also me playing with my hitting partner for many, many years, I feel like it’s working and it’s a good process. So that’s why I’m not changing the rest of the team.”

In fact, Świątek wasn’t ready to end the conversation after getting distracted from the main reason, as she mentioned the Polish media again, saying, “In Poland, it was super chaotic with media, so I just wanted to get it out clear so fans can also know what’s going on.”

What Did the Polish Media Do That Angered Iga Świątek?

During Świątek’s poor form, the Polish media reportedly exaggerated the rumors about her mental health and team stability. Many critics also questioned psychologist Abramowicz’s involvement. Her withdrawals from a few events sparked conversations that were amplified or allegedly false.

Following her Wimbledon 2025 win, Świątek spoke out about how the Polish media treated her and her team, hoping they would let her practice in peace.

During her tennis break, she shared the court with the legendary Rafa, learning even the smallest tips of a clay-court game despite her immense success. American Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys reacted to this, jokingly calling it “illegal” during an episode of the Players’ Box Podcast.

The Queen of Clay will try to gain the form for which she is known, given that the clay season has already started, and she is ready to step foot on a court for the first time in nearly one month.
