Iga Świątek expressed her happiness after reaching the final of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open, marking her first appearance at this level in over a year. Her last final was at the 2024 French Open, where she triumphed over Jasmine Paolini, claiming her fourth title at Roland Garros and her fifth Grand Slam title overall.
Iga Świątek Makes Her Feelings Known After Making It to the 2025 Bad Homburg Open Final
Świątek kicked off her grass court season at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open. She entered the WTA 500 grass court tournament as the fourth seed and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She faced qualifier Victoria Azarenka in her opening match and secured a straight-set victory, winning 6-4, 6-4. She defeated eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-4, 7-6(5).
In the semifinals, the former World No. 1 faced second seed Paolini and emerged victorious with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 scoreline, earning her place in the final–her first-ever on grass courts. This match marked the fifth encounter between Świątek and Paolini on the WTA Tour, with the Pole winning all five matches against the World No. 4.
During the post-match on-court interview, Świątek expressed that she was “super happy” to secure the victory as she wasn’t expecting to win the match.
“Yeah, I am super happy. I wasn’t expecting, you know, honestly, to win this match. So, I’m happy that I just did my job. I knew what I wanted to play, and I just went for it,” Świątek said.

The five-time Grand Slam champion also stated that she was satisfied with how she maintained her winning momentum throughout the match, which ultimately led to her securing her place in the championship match.
“And I am happy that I kept the momentum going till the end of the match because, for sure, this means, like, you cannot let her get back to the game because she is a fighter. So, I just wanted to go for it and go for my shots,” she added.
Who Will Iga Świątek Face in the Final of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open?
Following her victory over Paolini in the 2025 Bad Homburg Open semifinals, Świątek is set to face top seed Jessica Pegula in the tournament’s final.
Pegula began her campaign at the WTA 500 grass court event in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. In her opening match, she defeated qualifier Kateřina Siniaková with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3. Then, in the quarterfinals, the American triumphed over fifth seed and compatriot Emma Navarro, winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The World No. 3 most recently registered a 7-6(2), 7-5, 6-1 win over Linda Nosková in the semifinals to secure her place in the final, where she will take on Świątek.
Świątek and Pegula have faced each other ten times on the WTA Tour, with the former World No. 1 winning six of those encounters. Their most recent match-up took place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open, where Pegula emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-4. She then finished as the runner-up at the New York Major after losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
After the conclusion of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open, both Świątek and Pegula will compete at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 13, 2025, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.
Last year at the grass-court Grand Slam, Świątek defeated Sofia Kenin and Petra Martić in the first two rounds before being eliminated by Yulia Putintseva in the third round. Meanwhile, Pegula triumphed over Ashlyn Krueger in the first round before being eliminated by Wang Xinyu in the second round.
