Holger Rune Provides Recent Injury Update

The Dane underwent surgery in Copenhagen and said in a press release that it went well. He also spoke about giving his very best to make a strong return to tennis.

“It’s unfortunate, and it’s been some really hard days, and I’ve been very, very sad about it. But I’m glad the surgery went well and I’ll get through this. I know it takes patience, but I’m going to work hard at rehab every single day and give it everything I have to come back strong,” Rune said, as quoted by Ekstra Bladet.

The World No. 11 also shared a picture of himself from the hospital bed, with his caption reading:

“Hi everyone. Surgery went really well today. Thank you for all your incredible messages and support. I will keep you updated on my recovery. But now rest and heal.”

Rune entered what turned out to be his last tournament in 2025 as the top seed and booked his place in the semifinals with a straight-set win over Márton Fucsovics and a hard-fought win over Tomás Martín Etcheverry after being a set down. Here, the Dane faced fourth seed Ugo Humbert and won the first set 6-4. The scores were tied at 2-2 in the second set before he retired due to his Achilles injury.

Rune Will End 2025 Season With 36 Wins Out of 58 Matches

The former World No. 4 played 58 matches during the 2025 season, winning 36 of them. His sole title came at the Barcelona Open, where he beat Acarlos Alcaraz 7-6(6), 6-2 in the final. Rune also produced a brilliant performance in Indian Wells, reaching the final after defeating Corentin Moutet, Humbert, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Tallon Griekspoor, and Daniil Medvedev. Here, he lost to Jack Draper.

The Dane also made it to the quarterfinals of two Masters 1000 events in Cincinnati and most recently, Shanghai. His best performance in Grand Slams was reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and the French Open, losing to Italian players (Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti) at both tournaments.

Rune is currently ranked tenth in the world but he is bound to suffere a huge drop in the upcoming months due to his prolonged absence from the ATP Tour.
