The World No. 7, who commenced his 2026 season with the ASB Classic, advancing to the quarterfinal round, delivered notable performances in his fourth Australian Open. He surpassed players, including Ugo Humbert, Dane Sweeny, Valentin Vacherot, and World No. 13 Casper Ruud, in the fourth round.
In his quarterfinal round, he was set to clash against Sinner, against whom he had lost his 2025 Australian Open semifinal round. Unfortunately for the Georgia native, it was last year’s repeat, as Sinner defeated him in three sets with a final scoreline of 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, and secured his semifinal spot against Serbian-Greek legend Novak Djokovic.
In his 2026 Australian Open run, Shelton had dropped just a single set before clashing against Sinner, signalling his improvement and tenacity to reach feats in the future. His impressive performances earned him support and an inspiring message from his girlfriend, who expressed optimism about his promising future.

Whereas Sinner is delivering another sensational campaign at Melbourne Park and has surpassed Hugo Gaston, who retired at two sets down, and then James Duckworth, Eliot Spizzirri, Luciano Darderi, and Shelton along the way to reach the semifinal round.
Rodman, who has been dating Shelton since March 2025, was also asked about her relationship, as they both are elite athletes in their respective sports. To which she mentioned, “I mean, it’s amazing. Like you said, we’re just little kids in love, is what it feels like. But it’s been amazing, being able to support each other in different sports is cool. He’s learning a lot about soccer. I’m learning a lot about tennis. And then on top of that, just doing fun things together with that.”
Apart from Shelton’s on-court triumphs, Rodman also etched her name in history with her three-year contract with the Spirit, making her the highest-paid player in league history and the world.
