Tiafoe vs. Paul: Head-to-Head History and Stats

These two players have met four times on the ATP Tour, with Paul leading the head-to-head 3-1. Their last meeting came at the Delray Beach Open in 2024, which Paul won in straight sets.

Their only meeting at a clay-court event came at an ITF event all the way back in 2015, which Tiafoe won in three sets.

Tiafoe has established himself as one of the top American male players on clay, with a 47-46 overall win-loss record on the surface. The 28-year-old enjoyed a strong clay-court swing last year, making the quarterfinals at the French Open.

After making the final of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in each of the last two seasons, Tiafoe will be determined to go one better this time around and win his second title in Houston. He was taken to three sets in his opening two matches but overcame Rinky Hijikata and Alexei Popyrin to reach the semifinals.

Paul holds an even better clay-court record (40-31) and also made the French Open quarterfinals last year. He also holds an impressive recent record at the Italian Open, making back-to-back semifinals in Rome.

The 28-year-old needed three sets to overcome Daniel Vallejo in his opener in Houston but delivered a strong performance against Etcheverry to qualify for the semifinals.

Tiafoe vs. Paul Match Prediction

Paul’s game translates well to clay thanks to his solid ball-striking from the baseline and his overall movement. He is also adept at extending rallies and will be eager to build on last year’s impressive clay-court run. A first-ever ATP Tour title on clay would go a long way in helping his confidence in the lead-up to the French Open.

The key to Tiafoe’s recent run of results on clay has been his excellent court coverage and ability to sustain long rallies. He has won the Houston event once, in 2023, and made the final in both 2024 and 2025.

Tiafoe has had more success in Houston, but Paul has performed at a much higher level so far this week. He also has a much better overall record on clay and has more tools in his arsenal to succeed on the surface.
