Tiafoe has arrived at the Cincinnati Open after his Canadian Open run came to an unfortunate end. Although the American kicked off his campaign with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win over Marin Čilić, he was forced to retire from his third-round encounter with Arthur Rinderknech leading 6-2, 2-0.
Tiafoe later explained that a right-hand injury had caused him to retire. Subsequently, he underwent a surgical procedure on his hand to remove a cyst that had been causing him discomfort. Despite concerns looming over his fitness, the world No. 23 looked to be in high spirits during his latest practice session at the venue.
