While Frances Tiafoe’s Toronto tournament run ended sooner than he hoped, the American tennis star proved that the sweetest victories happen away from the court. During a heartwarming visit to his girlfriend’s family, Tiafoe shared a moment that had Ayan Broomfield absolutely glowing with pride.
How Did Frances Tiafoe Surprise Ayan Broomfield’s Grandmother?
Broomfield shared a series of touching images to her Instagram stories, showing Tiafoe arriving at what appeared to be a care facility with a vibrant bouquet of flowers. Dressed casually in black shorts and a gray T-shirt, the tennis star carried the colorful arrangement inside with genuine warmth.
The photo series captured the entire sweet gesture. A second image provided a close-up of the beautiful flowers, while the final shot showed the most heartwarming moment of all: Tiafoe embracing Broomfield’s seated grandmother in a gentle, caring hug.
Broomfield couldn’t contain her joy, captioning the moment: “Nooo this is so cute.”

This touching family visit came just days after Tiafoe finished his campaign at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto. The seventh-seeded American started strong with a comeback victory over Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki, then reached the Round of 16 at the tournament by defeating Aleksandar Vukic. However, his tournament run concluded with a 2-6, 6-4, 4-6 loss to Australia’s Alex de Minaur.

Beyond singles competition, Tiafoe also partnered with fellow American Alex Michelsen in doubles action. The American duo defeated Canadian pair Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo to advance to the second round, where they fell 4-6, 3-6 to fourth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz.
What Did Broomfield Reveal About Their Teenage Love Story?
During a March 2025 appearance on Tennis Channel’s ‘Second Serve,’ Broomfield opened up about how her relationship with Tiafoe began. She revealed that their mutual friend Victoria Duval played matchmaker, introducing them when what would become a deep friendship eventually blossomed into romance. Broomfield jokingly noted that Duval has definitely earned a wedding invitation.
“I met Frances, so we both knew about each other, but I met him in person in 2015,” Broomfield said. “Actually, a former player named Victoria Duval, she knew both of us individually and she kind of peeped in Frances’ ear and said, ‘I think you guys would be fun together, I think you would have a good time.’ And so, Frances reached out and we became friends for about six months.”
“At first we became best friends, and then he asked me out and it’s been history. It’s been a while. We always tell her, ‘you’ll be at the wedding,'” she added.
