Emma Raducanu recently discussed Iga Świątek’s performance during their second-round matchup at the French Open. The Brit remained firm on her perception of seeing a sense of fierceness in the Pole every time they lock horns.
While Świątek didn’t let slip a single set during the match, Raducanu made a long list of pointers to work on before her next meeting against the Pole during her post-match press conference.
Emma Raducanu Shares Her POV on Iga Świątek’s Dominance During French Open Clash
There were doubts surrounding Iga Świątek’s form during the ongoing clay-court season due to her early exits in Madrid and Rome. However, she appears to be going for a resurgence at Roland Garros.
After Świątek’s second-round win over Emma Raducanu, the Brit couldn’t refrain from applauding her opponent’s dominance during the match.
“It was a really difficult match. Iga played really well, and yeah, it was tough. I think in the beginning of the match it was pretty tight, and then as it went on, I think she grew in confidence, and I just felt a bit exposed,” she said.
“I think every time we’ve played, she plays really well and kind of puts a lot of pressure on from the beginning, and it makes me feel like I have to maybe do something extra, or I just don’t know what to do in the moment. I think it shifts the dynamics of the match a bit, and then it’s very difficult to stay with her as she grows in confidence,” she added.
The recent showdown marked Raducanu’s fifth defeat to Świątek in as many matches between the two. She will next take on Jaqueline Cristian in the third round of the French Open.
Emma Raducanu Claims She Does Not Feel Demotivated
Despite facing a disappointing defeat against Iga Świątek, Emma Raducanu managed to keep her motivation levels high. The 22-year-old shared her plan for the days ahead, marking it with key factors including a mandatory holiday to reset and to begin preparations for the grass-court season.
“I don’t feel demotivated. I feel like since Miami I’ve really started building some momentum compared to where I came from at the start of the year and it makes me just want to keep going after a couple of days off and then get on the grass,” she said, as reported by Sky Sports.
Raducanu’s defeat to Świątek means that she will end her clay-court season in 2025 with a 6-4 win-loss record. The 22-year-old will now focus on the grass-court season ahead, where her first tournament is the Queen’s Club Championships.
