In Emma Raducanu’s absence, world No. 275 Mika Stojsavljevic and world No. 173 Harriet Dart rose to the occasion, delivering standout performances against higher-ranked Australian opponents. The 17-year-old Stojsavljevic set the tone for Great Britain, claiming a 7-6(4), 7-5 upset over world No. 56 Talia Gibson to give her side an early lead. Subsequently, Dart took on Kimberly Birrell and mounted a stunning comeback to beat the Australian 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Dart then returned to the court with Jodie Burrage to lock horns with Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez in the doubles match, clinching a 6-3, 6-4 victory to secure a coveted spot in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Raducanu took to social media to celebrate her compatriots’ success, sharing in Great Britain’s victory.

Meanwhile, Yulia Putintseva stepped up in Elena Rybakina’s absence to lead Kazakhstan as they took on Canada. She produced the first win for her team, beating Kayla Cross 6-3, 7-5. Bianca Andreescu responded by leveling the scores, securing a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Sonja Zhiyenbayeva.
However, Andreescu couldn’t carry that momentum into the doubles clash alongside Cross, as Anna Danilina and Zhibek Kulambayeva won 7-5, 6-1 to put Kazakhstan in front. The tie then culminated in a blockbuster battle between Putintseva and Andreescu, with the Kazakh prevailing 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(4) to seal their place in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Rybakina later celebrated the triumph, applauding her teammates for their stellar performances.
“Forward, Kazakhstan!” Rybakina wrote.

Why Elena Rybakina Skipped the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers
During the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, Kazakhstan’s captain, Yuri Shchukin, shared the reason behind Rybakina’s absence. He revealed that the national tennis federation had arrived at a “joint decision” with Rybakina to skip the event so she could focus on her battle with Aryna Sabalenka for the world No. 1 ranking.
“You see, after Australia, she’s second in the world rankings, and she has the opportunity to become number one. But with such a busy schedule, she has to sacrifice some tournaments, even ones like the Billie Jean King Cup, where you compete for your country. All of this is for the sake of achieving this for the country and becoming the best in the world. This is a joint decision of the tennis federation; it wasn’t just Lena who decided this,” Shchukin said.

Rybakina now has a major opportunity to narrow her gap to Sabalenka by making a deep run at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, since the Belarusian has withdrawn from the WTA 500 event due to injury. Meanwhile, Raducanu recently delayed the start of her clay-court season by withdrawing from the Linz Open while recovering from a viral illness.
