Emma Raducanu maintained her strong momentum on Wednesday as she defeated Janice Tjen 6-2, 6-1 in her second-round match at the US Open 2025. During her press conference following the win, she was asked about arguably the most talked-about topic of the tournament, which is Carlos Alcaraz’s new buzz haircut.
What Did Emma Raducanu Say About Carlos Alcaraz’s US Open 2025 Haircut?
Raducanu was asked about Alcaraz’s haircut during her post-match press conference and she said that the Spaniard was able to pull it off.
“I think he owns it. I think he pulls it off. I think he’s just taken it and if you own a haircut like that, then it can work. And I think mixed field, but whatever he does, it’s not going to affect what he does on the court. So, I’m just happy to see him having fun with whatever,” Raducanu said.
Alcaraz’s new haircut has become the biggest talking point of the US Open 2025 and the story behind it was a mistake made by his brother Álvaro, who was supposed to give him a simple trim, but misunderstood the machine settings. After his first-round win against Reilly Opelka, the Spaniard explained that the only way to fix it was to shave, as his regular barber was far away in Spain.
Many tennis personalities gave their reactions to the buzz cut. Frances Tiafoe called it “horrible” and “terrible” when he spotted Alcaraz in the locker room, though he added that the Spaniard was still “my guy.”
Raducanu later spoke about Tiafoe’s comments by saying:
“I think Frances was harsh on him. I think the fact that he does it with confidence & owns it… I think he pulls it off.”

Jannik Sinner said about the haircut, “For him (Alcaraz), everything looks good,” but firmly declined when asked if he would try the same look.
A Look at Raducanu’s US Open Campaign So Far
Before the singles event, Raducanu competed in the mixed doubles event with Alcaraz, and the duo lost to Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula in the first round.
The Brit started her singles run against Ena Shibahara and won 6-1, 6-2 to book her place in the second round. Here, she faced Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen and registered a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory. Raducanu will next face either ninth seed Elena Rybakina or Tereza Valentová in the third round of the US Open.
