Emma Raducanu Moves Ahead in Her Season After Splitting From Rafael Nadal’s Former Coach

After facing an offseason marred by a foot injury, the World No. 29 commenced her 2026 with the United Cup tournament, making her debut with Great Britain in the tournament’s fourth edition. She then played at the Hobart International, entering as the top seed, and ended her run with a quarterfinal loss to Taylah Preston.

Following Hobart, Raducanu played at the Australian Open and exited the Grand Slam with a second-round loss to former World No. 21 Anastasia Potapova. Apart from losing at Melbourne Park, she also announced a shocking decision via Instagram story, revealing that she has split from her coach after 6 months.

In a heartfelt note, Raducanu expressed her gratitude for Roig and appreciated their time together, “Thank you for our time together. You have been more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent together on and off the court. While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know that I am very grateful for all you have taught me and fond of our time shared.”

After parting ways with Roig, who handled the alternate coaching role for Spanish legend Rafael Nadal from 2005 until 2022, Raducanu is all set to enter the Transylvania Open, whose defending champion is Potapova. As the X post of Raducanu News shared, “Emma arrives in Cluj 😊 📸  @TransylvaniaOpn 🇷🇴 🦇.”

Raducanu will enter the Transylvania Open as the top seed, and the hard-court tournament will be held from February 1 to 7, 2026, in Romania, a place famously recognised for Gothic castles and rich folklore.
