What Did Emma Navarro Say After Team USA’s Runner-Up Finish at BJK Cup Finals?

Team USA finished second at the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, losing 0-2 to defending champions Italy in the final on Sept. 21. The match took place at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in China, where the Americans reached their first final since 2018 but could not win their 19th title.

Navarro played a key role in getting Team USA to the final, as she helped her team win several tough matches during the week. In the quarterfinals against Kazakhstan, the American beat Yulia Putintseva 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(3) after saving two match points, before defeating Great Britain’s Sonay Kartal 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinal tie.

After the tournament ended, Navarro posted on Instagram about her whole experience, with her caption reading:

“Nothing beats dressing up in the red white and blue 🇺🇸🫶 it was a pleasure to share a week with team usa @billiejeankingcup we’ll be back for the 🏆”.

The message showed how proud she felt wearing American colors, along with the desire to come back next year and win the title.

How Did Team USA Perform at BJK Cup?

The final was tough for Team USA as Italy won both singles matches, without needing a doubles match. Navarro played World No. 91 Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the day’s first match, losing 6-4, 6-4 to the Italian.

Jessica Pegula faced Jasmine Paolini in the second singles match, losing 6-4, 6-2. This big win gave the defending champions Italy their sixth BJK Cup title. Paolini was a key player in Italy’s success this week as she won all of her singles matches during the tournament.

Navarro, Pegula, and doubles expert Taylor Townsend played a crucial role in taking team USA to the finals. In the semifinals against Great Britain, both Navarro and Pegula came from behind to win their matches, giving them a clean 2-0 victory over the British team.

Italy defended their title successfully this year as they reached their third straight final and won their second title in a row. The Italians were simply too strong for the USA as they easily won both singles matches in straight sets without much trouble.
