Emma Navarro’s Comeback Against Defending Champion Barbora Krejčíková

The match started badly for Navarro as Krejčíková dominated the first set 6-2, showing she’s the defending champion. However, the tide turned dramatically in the second set when Navarro found her rhythm and took it 6-3. The real drama unfolded in the deciding set when Krejčíková began showing signs of physical distress.

At 3-2 in the final set, Krejčíková had her blood pressure checked during a medical timeout, eating a banana and drinking fluids. When play resumed, the Czech star was struggling, often leaning over and placing her hands on her knees between points. The emotional moment came when Krejčíková broke down in tears at the back of the court.

Despite the distressing scenes, Navarro maintained her focus and broke serve to lead 5-3 before serving out the match. While Krejčíková hit 34 winners to Navarro’s 13, she also made 53 unforced errors compared to just 11 from the American. The 24-year-old’s father Ben Navarro was spotted in the crowd throughout the match and was seen cheering for his daughter just as she won.

Ben Navarro, who is the founder of Sherman Financial Group, purchased the Charleston Open in 2018 through his company Beemok Sports. He later acquired the prestigious Cincinnati Open in 2022 for approximately $300 million.

Emma Navarro to Face Mirra Andreeva in Wimbledon 4R

After beating Krejčíková, Navarro will next face seventh seed Mirra Andreeva in what will be the only fourth-round match of Wimbledon 2025 involving two top-10 seeded players. Andreeva reached the second week of the grass-court Major for the second time in her career after a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win over Hailey Baptiste.

Navarro and Andreeva previously locked horns in the first round of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, with the Russian registering a comprehensive 2-6, 2-6 win. Whoever out of the two comes out on top this time, will face either 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova or Belinda Bencic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Victory for Navarro will see her reach the last eight of the grass-court Major for the second straight year.
