Svitolina vs Wang Prediction

Svitolina began her campaign in Auckland with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win over Varvara Gracheva in the first round. She kept her momentum up, winning 7-5, 6-4 against British wildcard Katie Boulter in the second round. She faced a stern three-set challenge from another British player, Sonay Kartal, in the quarterfinals, winning 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5). In the semifinal, the top seed faced off against the third-seeded Iva Jovic, winning 7-6 (5), 6-2.

On the other hand, Wang began her Auckland campaign with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Caty McNally in the first round. She won 7-5, 6-4 against Renata Zarazua in the second round, and then got a win via retirement against Francesca Jones in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, she faced off against fourth-seeded Alexandra Eala. In a topsy-turvy match, the Chinese player won a three-set thriller, winning 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, while saving a match point.

Svitolina boasts an impressive resume on hard courts, having reached 15 hard-court finals in her career, won eleven titles on the surface, including two WTA 1000 titles, and secured the bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She is a former runner-up in Auckland, having reached the final in 2024, where she lost to Coco Gauff.

On the other hand, this is the first hard-court final for Wang and her second overall career final. Her only other WTA final came on grass at the Berlin Tennis Open last year, where she lost 6-7 (10), 6-4, 2-6 against former Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová in the final.

Svitolina was quite below average while serving against Jovic, winning 58 percent of the service points. She made it up in the return games, winning 52 percent of the total return points, where she was able to win over 60 percent of the points behind her opponent’s second serve.

In her match against Eala, Wang won 55% of the service points and 46% of the return points. Her second serve was vulnerable, as she won only 27% of the points behind it. However, she was effective on return, breaking her opponent’s serve seven times in the match.

Svitolina is the favorite going into the match, as she has a positive head-to-head record against Wang and is a former runner-up in Auckland.

Pick – Svitolina to win in straight sets
