Elina Svitolina vs Dayana Yastremska Preview: Head-to-Head, Prediction for Qatar Open 2026

Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremska will lock horns in an all-Ukrainian clash for a place in the third round of the Qatar Open.

Seventh seed Elina Svitolina will take on compatriot Dayana Yastremska for a place in the third round of the Qatar Open. Whoever out of the two comes out on top, will face either 12th seed Emma Navarro or Anna Kalinskaya in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 event in Doha.

Svitolina is coming off an impressive Australian Open run that saw her reach the semifinals and return to the top 10 of the WTA rankings. The 31-year-old made it to the second round of the Qatar Open due to her seeding at the tournament.

Yastremska has won four out of eight matches so far in 2026, with her best performance being reaching the third round of the Brisbane International. The Ukrainian entered Doha after a second-round exit in Abu Dhabi after being trounced 3-6, 0-6 by Ekaterina Alexandrova. She booked her place in the second round in Doha after edging out Cristina Bucșa 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5).

The only prior encounter between the two Ukrainians came back in the 2019 US Open, with Svitolina trouncing Yastremska 6-2, 6-0.

Svitolina vs. Yastremska Prediction

Svitolina will enter the match as the heavy favorite to win. The 31-year-old was a top-10 player when she last faced Yastremska and is in the exact same position now as well. Yastremska was ranked 32nd in the world at that time and she is currently 42nd. The 25-year-old has won only five out of 14 tour-level singles matches since reaching the round of 16 at last year’s Canadian Open.

Svitolina is a solid counterpuncher but she can also be aggressive when needed. Her versatility is a key weapon and will come in very handy while dealing with Yastremska. The 25-year-old had a disappointing first-serve record in her last match, winning only 47% of points on it. She will have to produce one of the best performances of her career if she is to make things difficult for Svitolina.

While the former World No. 3 has had slip-ups at times, she is in good nick at the moment and ideally, should not have much of an issue getting the better of Yastremska, and reaching the third round in Doha.

Pick: Svitolina to win in straight sets.
