World No. 14 Elina Svitolina seemed to have moved on quickly from her French Open quarterfinal loss to defending champion Iga Świątek. She was recently seen attending Richard Gasquet’s retirement party in Paris, where she was joined by her husband, fellow player Gaël Monfils.

Świątek has looked dominant from the start of the French Open, and she didn’t let the Ukrainian take any control in their quarterfinals encounter on Tuesday. After dropping the first set 1-6, Svitolina mounted some resistance in the second, briefly leading 3-1. But that wasn’t enough to stop the Pole, who rallied to take the set 7-5.
Svitolina later acknowledged the disappointing elimination in her Instagram story.
Nonetheless, the Ukrainian left behind the straight set defeat and attended former French tennis player Gasquet’s retirement party. The 38-year-old, who made his tour debut in 2002, announced last year that he would retire at the 2025 French Open. He played his final match on Court Philippe Chatrier on Thursday, May 29, losing to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner 3-6, 0-6, 4-6 in the second round.
Days after his swansong, Gasquet hosted a farewell party in Paris, attended by former French players like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon. Svitolina’s husband, Monfils, who exited the French Open in the second round after losing to Jack Draper, also celebrated his compatriot’s tennis journey.

After turning professional, Gasquet played 1,005 matches and won 16 ATP titles. The Frenchman reached the Wimbledon semifinals twice and the US Open semifinals once. He was also part of the 2017 Davis Cup-winning French team.
Elina Svitolina Delivers a Respectable Clay-Court Campaign in 2025
Svitolina had a decent clay-court season, kicking off with a win at the Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole in April. She carried that momentum into the Madrid Open, making a deep run before falling to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.
The 30-year-old then finished as a quarterfinalist at the Italian Open after losing to America’s Peyton Stearns 2-6, 6-4, 6-7 (7). She shockingly withdrew from the Internationaux de Strasbourg due to an injury and ended her run on clay with a quarterfinal finish in Paris.
Svitolina, the 13th seed at this year’s French Open, reached the quarterfinals for the fourth time in her career but has yet to progress beyond that stage. Her husband, Monfils, meanwhile, had a subpar run on clay with his best being a second-round finish in Monte Carlo and later in Paris.
