Before Doha, the Russian had another disappointing loss in Rotterdam, losing to Ugo Humbert in the first round.
Tsitsipas started 2026 well, winning all three of his matches at the United Cup, including one against Taylor Fritz. The Greek, however, could not get past the second round in his next three events. He lost to the likes of Aleksandar Vukic and Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round of Adelaide and Rotterdam, respectively, while losing to Tomáš Macháč in the second round of the Australian Open.

While Medvedev has shown signs of his old spark this season, Tsitsipas’s on-court struggles have continued. Since his title win in Dubai last year, the Greek has a very moderate 15-13 win-loss record on the hard courts.
Moreover, Medvedev is a former champion in Doha, winning in 2023, while Tsitsipas has never reached the quarterfinals at this event. With the dominant head-to-head, the Russian starts as the firm favorite in the upcoming match.
