Standing between Daniil Medvedev and a first singles title since 2023 is Corentin Moutet.

Daniil Medvedev has been on the brink of a resurgence and will no doubt get close to it if he wins his first title since the 2023 Italian Open. The second-seeded Russian will face eighth seed Corentin Moutet in the final of the Almaty Open after coming back from a set down to defeat James Duckworth 6-7(8), 6-3, 6-2. Moutet reached his second final of the 2025 season after a 7-5, 6-4 win over sixth seed Alex Michelsen.

Medvedev vs. Moutet Prediction

The Russian has had more than his fair share of slipups so far this season and he lost his last match to Moutet. However, he has produced some promising tennis lately, including a semifinal appearance at the Shanghai Masters, and will enter the match as the favorite to win.

Medvedev’s first-serve numbers have been quite impressive so far in Almaty, having won 131 out of 162 points (80.9%) and serving 37 aces. The 29-year-old has also amassed 83  winners while hitting just 32 unforced errors.

He has also been decent at the net during the tournament, winning 44 out of 65 points so far. Medvedev’s counterpunching, movement, and serve have been important parts of his game and he will look to make the most out of them.

Moutet’s first-serve have been far from impressive, having won 140 out of 217 points (64.5%), with 14 aces to his name. The Frenchman has also produced 93 winners while amassing just 45 unforced errors. Moutet’s key strength is the variety he can incorporate into his shots and it will be crucial to cope with Medvedev’s more effective style of play.

The Frenchman will be high on confidence knowing that he beat the former World No. 1 just months back. However, given the improvement Medvedev has shown lately, there is a good chance of him coming out on top and finally winning his first singles title since mid-2023.
