As fans awaited Danielle Collins’ return to the tour, the American instead delivered news that will extend her time away from the tour. Sidelined for months by a back injury that cut short her 2025 season, Collins confirmed she will remain out into early 2026 as she undergoes egg-freezing procedures. Her last match came in the opening round of the 2025 US Open in August, where she was eliminated in straight sets by Jaqueline Cristian.
Danielle Collins To Postpone Her Return Next Season and Switch to a Novel Role at the 2026 Australian Open
By her own high standards, the 2025 season proved underwhelming for the American.
She finished with a 15–14 win–loss record, highlighted by a semifinal run in Strasbourg and a quarterfinal showing in Charleston, as her standout results.
Collins later announced she was shutting down her 2025 campaign early due to health concerns and her long-term goal of starting a family.
While sidelined from the tour, Collins revealed that she has been undergoing egg-freezing procedures, describing the experience as one of the ‘coolest things’ she has ever done.
“Wanted to come on here and give everyone a little update since everyone has been asking! I’ve been taking the last few months off to recover from the back injury I had at the end of the season. I’ve also been undergoing a few egg freezing procedures 🥳🥚 It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve honestly ever done! But at the same time, these hormones I have had to be on are a real b**** 🤣🎢,” she wrote on Instagram.
But despite this, the fans may see a new version of the American player. She also confirmed she will miss the early part of the season but will remain involved in tennis, hinting at a commentary role with Tennis Channel during the 2026 Australian Open.
“I am so fortunate for the friends that have been helping take care of me during this time 🤍 I have one more procedure to go. With all of this, I will not be competing during the first part of the year. But you will be seeing me in a different capacity with @tennischannel 🎤 This is all I will be sharing for now. More updates to come 😉,” she added.

It now remains to be seen when Collins will regain fitness and what lies ahead for the former world No. 7.
In the meantime, she is set to embrace a broadcasting role, following a similar path to her compatriot and former Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens, who also turned to commentary during an injury layoff last year.
