As we head into the second week of the 2026 Australian Open, nine Americans remain in the hunt in the men’s and women’s singles. The likes of Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, and reigning women’s singles champion Madison Keys are leading the American charge at the Grand Slam.
A total of 40 Americans had entered the main draw in singles at the 2026 Australian Open. 17 players were eliminated in the first round, and 14 more were sent packing in the next two rounds. Here is a look at the Americans still in contention at the Australian Open.
Americans at the Australian Open – Women’s Singles
In the women’s singles, Gauff remains the top-ranked player. The third seed was pushed to three sets by Hailey Baptiste in the third round before winning 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. She will face Karolína Muchová in the fourth round.
Iva Jović is enjoying a breakout run at the Australian Open. The 18-year-old claimed a massive upset win over Jasmine Paolini in the third round, winning 6-2, 7-6 (3). Another tricky test against Yulia Putintseva now awaits the 29th seed.
An all-American clash awaits in the fourth round as sixth seed Jessica Pegula takes on ninth seed Keys. This could well be one of the matches of the round between the reigning champion and one of the most consistent performers over the last 12 months.
Fourth seed Amanda Anisimova will face Wang Xinyu in the fourth round after getting the better of compatriot Peyton Stearns in straight sets.
Americans at the Australian Open – Men’s Singles
Four Americans remain in the hunt in the men’s singles at the 2026 Australian Open. While Frances Tiafoe was beaten by Alex de Minaur, Fritz very much remains in contention. The World No. 9 will face fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti in what should be a closely contested fourth-round match.
Ben Shelton has made it through to the fourth round without dropping a set and will be determined to continue that run as we approach the business end of the Australian Open. After comfortably dispatching Valentin Vacherot, Shelton will look to maintain his form against Casper Ruud.
Learner Tien has impressed so far at the Australian Open. The talented 20-year-old will now hope to spring an upset against 11th seed Daniil Medvedev. 19th seed Tommy Paul will be in for a tough test in the fourth round as he faces World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard has yet to drop a set at Melbourne Park, and Paul could be in for an uphill battle at the Rod Laver Arena on Saturday.
